So you’ve decided to homeschool and now you’re wondering how to find groups near you! It all depends on what you’re looking for. Homeschool groups host play dates, park meetups, field trips, field day, holiday parties, proms, graduations, and more. Here’s a guide to find your people.
Homeschool groups range from casual to formal in that some are more for play dates and some are more for structured learning where the parents teach classes. Forest Friends and Wild + Free are nationwide groups that have chapters in many areas. These types of groups focus on outdoor play and learning. Classical Conversations is a rigorous homeschool curriculum and there are chapters in many areas where children using the curriculum come for formal instruction on a weekly basis.
Start by doing a Google or Facebook search for “Homeschool group near (your area)” or “Homeschool co-op (your area)” There are groups on Facebook for secular, religious, and beginner homeschoolers and there are groups for every state. Ask in your state group what co-ops are near you.
Homeschools Connected is also a great place to search for friends in your locale. In our parents’ group, we have groups for each of the 50 states, Canada, Australia and more. Our members are encouraged to get out and make friends in real life.
If you can’t find what you are looking for, you can always start your own group! Invite families from your area to join you at the park or for field trips. In our online community, we have groups for every state in the US (and countries from outside the US) where it is our hope you can make friendships with like-minded people in real life.
