It’s the question on every skeptic’s mind… how do homeschoolers socialize? The simple answer is, much the same way adults do.
Here are 4 ways homeschoolers get real world socialization in.
1. Homeschool groups – Homeschool groups range from play groups to formal co-ops. They host field trips, park meetups, field day, prom, graduation ceremonies, and more. You and your child can foster connections during these meetings.
2. Extracurriculars: Sports, etc– yes, homeschoolers can play sports, too! Some areas have teams specifically for homeschoolers, but some districts will allow homeschoolers to play on teams with public or private schools.
3. Youth Clubs: 4H, Scouts, Heritage Girls, Trail Life – Clubs are a good way to make connections with people you have something in common with. 4H has clubs for many different topics ranging from agriculture to martial arts. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will get your child outdoors and earning badges. Heritage Girls and Trail Life are Christian based leadership and character development program similar to Scouts.
4. Religious Events – Church, Sunday School, youth groups, and Vacation Bible Schools are great settings to build bridges with those who align with your own family’s beliefs.
