How much time do you think is wasted during the average school day?
There’s this book called “The Five Hour School Week” written by this amazing family who just by chance had to do school at home for a couple of weeks. There were really traditional people who really believed in the system. You go to school, you listen to your teacher, get good grades, go to college, get a job. What they found was not only shocking, but it changed their lives.
They were able to teach their daughter everything she had to know in one hour a day. She was in elementary school at the time. Not only that, but her daughter was actually doing better!
The biggest benefit was the time and freedom to do ancillary things; following her daughter’s interests. She would go on to become a successful entrepreneur when she was only a teenager. All of a sudden, cooking, gardening, field trips, became amazing opportunities for learning.
That’s what homeschool families understand; you don’t need that much time for formal education. This leaves so much more time for less formal things that your children love and look forward to.
