Ah, the question every homeschooling family will be asked. In the age of technology, we can reach out to someone in an instant. There is no end to the homechool groups, co-ops, and play dates. Research is finding homeschoolers are more well-rounded socially than their peers according to NHERI. They have the opportunity to interact with children of all ages and walks of life. They even converse normally with adults and see them as equals. Try searching Google and Facebook for “homeschool groups near me” to find your people.
These are a few events my children have gotten to participate in since we began homeschooling: monthly field trips, field day, reader’s theater plays, chorus recital, graduation ceremony, yearbook, and more. Not to mention play dates, park days, pool days, church, riding lessons, martial arts. They have a more active social life than I do.
Remember, forced association is not socialization. When is the last time you were in a room with 30 people your age? Public school presents a false socialization that does not prepare children for the real world. Homeschoolers are actually out in the real world every day with their parents to guide them, regularly accompanying trips to the grocery store, the bank, the post office, etc.
