Dystopian novels have regained popularity over the last several years as many readers are drawing similarities between the novels and today’s world.
These three popular dystopian novels would provide an excellent opportunity for book reports with a compare and contrast element:
Alduous Huxley’s Brave New World (1932)
Assign the reading or 2 or all 3 of these books and compare themes. Have your student prepare an oral and/or written report hi-lighting these things:
- How are they alike?
- How are they different?
- Are there things described in the books that accurately predicted the world today?
- Formulate an argument for which book is more accurate.
Please Note: Each of these books contain adult content related to sexuality of the people living in the time period the books are set in. These are not explicit scenes, but rather references to how sex is viewed by each society. Use your discretion as a parent to help you decide if/when to assign these readings. As always, pre-read your children’s reading materials and use your best judgement.
