One of the most frequent questions we’re asked as a homeschool company is where to find texts that teach history accurately. We teach our students how to go back to primary documents and first-hand accounts to search for the truth. If you want to teach about the Civli War, start by asking someone who was there.
We have created a free lesson plan to get you started!
- Assign reading of both the Writings of Abraham Lincoln and The Quotable Stonewall Jackson: Selections From the Writings and Speeches of the South’s Most Famous General.
- Have the student form an original argument related to the civil war. (The written argument can be presented orally.)
- Compare and contrast the perspectives of both sides.
- List the reasons why the war was fought.
If you tried this lesson plan, let us know how it went. We’d love to hear from you! If you want more of this type of content, be sure to subscribe to our email list by entering your info in the prompt that appears when you visit our website.
